Where is Steels Creek?

Steels Creek is a small hamlet about 45 km north-east of Melbourne, in the heart of the Yarra Valley. It has a rich social and environmental history, and is a place of some 150 people are proud to call home.

It’s difficult to know the exact population of Steels Creek, as this is a community that is not defined by formal borders. Basically, if you live somewhere on either side of Steels Creek Rd between Yarra Glen and the borders of Kinglake National Park, and you feel part of Steels Creek, then you are a ‘Screekian’.

In February 2009, Steels Creek was decimated by the Black Saturday fires, but the environment and the people have been bouncing back and returning to the strong sense of community that has been a hallmark of this place for decades.
