“History ↔ Future” Community Meeting 3pm Sunday 2nd August

SC Community Centre: “History ↔ Future” Community Meeting 3pm Sunday 2nd August

We have been alluding to a new project for Steels Creek for a little while and now it is time for our first meeting. As shown by the recent Resilience Community meeting, the history of Steels Creek is an important part of who we are and taking steps to preserve that history is a meaningful undertaking to many in the valley. It is not however, simply a dry recitation of facts, (though there may be some of that), but more of a living history project. The vision for the “History ↔ Future” project is one of an online portal where the stories of our community are held and easily accessed to all who have an interest in Steels Creek. A long term aim is to develop a platform that ultimately can be used by other communities to record their relevant history – we are planning big! Think of it as one small link in connecting communities in order to make them stronger. With the Yarra Glen Historical Society being wound up in 2025, we believe this project is as important as ever.

The stories of our valley are waiting to be told and whether that is by casual conversation, written word, or formal interview, we are keen to get started. So we have scheduled a planning meeting on Sunday August 2nd at 3pm, at the community centre, to flesh out a vision, set our strategy and facilitate a plan going forward. If this sounds like something you would like to get involved with, please email historyfutureproject@gmail.com with any questions or just let us know you will be attending. Alternatively, you can contact volunteer project initiator Erin-Marie O’Neill m:0407 353 379 or Kerry Guthrie m: 0409 505 681.
