Steels Creek History Market @ SCCC (Sat 9th Feb, 10:00am)
Where: Steels Creek Community Centre. No formalities, but our Steels Creek Market gathering and luncheon will be an opportunity to connect long term residents with new residents and friends to share experiences – including food (bring a plate to share!)
This is a market not to miss and we invite everyone who currently live here, those who have moved away, and those who have had a deep connection with this community to come share this day together. “Sckreekians”, near and far, are asked to bring a piece of their Steels Creek history to display in the old school house (the community centre). We would love these to be donated so they can form part of a more permanent display. Example: a photo of their property then and now, a piece of artwork, or old school pics from the Steels Creek School or perhaps you have a pile of newspaper clippings… make it part of our display.
Recovery Talk with Rob Gordon @ SCCC (Wed 6th Feb, 7:00pm)
Rob Gordon, a local resident, and internationally renowned psychologist and disaster
recovery consultant, will talk once again to our community. This year about long term recovery, adjusting to big things in the past and how we adjust our sense of identity with them. Rob’s talks following the few months after Black Saturday were very much valued and reassuring. We encourage new and existing families, especially our teenagers and young adults to come along. We will conclude the session with a light supper.
Steels Creek Reflection Walk @ SCCC (Thurs 7 Feb, 9:30am)
Starting at SCCC, a short morning walk along Steels Creek track, followed by refreshments at SCCC, a gentle walk for those who would like to be together on this day.
Yarra Glen Rememberance @ McKensie Reserve (Thurs 7 Feb, 05:30PM – 07:00PM)
Yarra Ranges Council will be hosting an event at McKenzie Reserve in Yarra Glen to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the 2009 Victorian Bushfires on Thursday, 7 February, starting at 5.30pm.
Residents, emergency services workers and friends and family of those affected by the bushfires are welcome to attend the reserve for a short program of speeches and performances, including Dixons Creek Primary School and the Badger Creek Women’s Choir.
Refreshments and ice cream will be available at the event, and visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic.
The Yarra Glen and District Men’s Shed will host a sausage sizzle at the event, for a gold coin donation, which will go to local CFA brigades.
In the event of a Fire Danger Rating of Extreme or higher, the event will be cancelled.
In the event of rainy weather, the event will be relocated indoors to the Yarra Glen Memorial Hall.
